One of the more relaxing ways to experience the landscape of Eryri is from the warmth of a steaming outdoor bath.

At Penmaenuchaf, the Ogwen room offers exactly that. It’s private copper bath on its outdoor terrace invites you to slow down, soak and take in the beauty of the mountains surrounding you.

Ogwen’s name inspiration

Ogwen takes its name from nearby Llyn Ogwen in the heart of Eryri National Park, one of the legendary Welsh lakes said to be connected to King Arthur and Excalibur.

The room itself is bright and airy, with an original antique fireplace and a spacious walk-in shower. French doors then open onto a large private roof terrace, where comfortable seating overlooks the gardens and surrounding woodland.

And at the heart of the terrace is the room’s handcrafted copper spa bath, offering a wonderfully indulgent place to soak beneath the open Eryri sky.

A bath beneath the Eryri sky

The outdoor bath is exclusive to the Ogwen room, offering a unqiue way to enjoy the outdoors in complete privacy.

Filled with fresh hot water for every soak, the copper bath combines the comfort of warm, bubbling water with the feeling of being outside. Hydrotherapy jets and bubbles add to the experience, while the temperature can be adjusted to your preference before settling in beneath the open sky.

There’s something particularly restorative about the contrast between warm water and cool mountain air. In the morning, it offers a peaceful start to the day; as evening falls, the gardens become quieter and the changing light creates an entirely different atmosphere.

Whether you spend ten minutes in the bath or linger a little longer, it’s a simple pleasure that makes the Ogwen Room feel quite unlike anywhere else at Penmaenuchaf.

After a day exploring Eryri

The Ogwen Room is particularly welcoming after a day spent outdoors.

Set out from Penmaenuchaf to discover the landscapes of Southern Eryri, whether walking through ancient woodland, following the Mawddach Estuary or heading into the mountains. Then return to the comfort of Ogwen and unwind at your own pace.

Perhaps it’s a long soak beneath the open sky, a coffee on the terrace or simply an hour spent watching the landscape change. After a day of adventure, there’s nowhere else you need to be.
