Accessibility

Do you have any accessible rooms? caret-down

We don’t currently have any fully accessible bedrooms, as all of our accommodation is located at least one floor above ground level.

Do you have a lift? caret-down

We don’t have a lift in the house. However, our team are always on hand to assist with luggage and help make your arrival as comfortable as possible.

Amenities

Can I order flowers and wine in advance of my stay? caret-down

Wine, Champagne, flowers and chocolates are all available to order in advance. If you’d like to order any of these items, we’d appreciate it if you give us 1 week’s advanced notice.

What time is check in/out at Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

Check in is from 3pm and check out is at 11am.

Can I request an early check-in or late check-out? caret-down

Yes, you can always request this directly with our reservations team, who will be happy to advise on availability 

Booking

Do you require a deposit for hotel stays? caret-down

We charge a 50% deposit. Rooms and stays booked as part of a special promotional offer should be paid in full upon booking and are non-refundable, but they can be transferred to an alternative date.

Do you require a deposit for a booking at the Afon Restaurant? caret-down

We would appreciate it if you could give at least 72 hours’ notice if you need to cancel your reservation. A cancellation fee of £20 per person will be charged for no-shows, late cancellations or significant amendments with less than 72 hours’ notice.

Please note that on special event dates (Guest chef nights, cooking classes, etc.) the full amount of the event will be charged if cancelled with less than 7 days notice. No shows or significant amendments to the reservation will incur the same charges.

What is your cancellation policy for bookings at Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

At Penmaenuchaf, cancellations made within five days of arrival are charged in full.

For bookings of two rooms or more, stays of three nights or longer, special events, public holidays or discounted offers, we require a minimum of 14 days’ notice for any cancellation or amendment.

Festive packages and certain special events may carry individual cancellation terms, which will always be detailed in your booking confirmation.

Children and families

Do you allow children to stay at Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

We welcome young people aged 16 and over to stay with us. As a small country house set high in the mountains of Eryri National Park, the experience at Penmaenuchaf is designed around atmosphere, adventure, romance and immersive stays in nature, and is therefore best suited to adult guests and older teenagers.

Is Penmaenuchaf an adults-only hotel? caret-down

Penmaenuchaf is an adult-focused mountain retreat. Overnight stays are available for guests aged 16 and over, helping us preserve the intimate and relaxed atmosphere that defines the house and its remarkable setting in the mountains.

Can children dine at Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

Yes, guests of all ages are very welcome to join us for lunch and afternoon tea. It is a lovely way for families to enjoy the house, gardens and surrounding mountain views, even if they are not staying overnight.

Are children welcome for dinner? caret-down

Dinner at Penmaenuchaf reflects the same romantic and grown-up atmosphere enjoyed by our resident guests. For this reason, dinner reservations are available for guests aged 16 and over.

Why do you have a minimum age for overnight stays? caret-down

Our mountain setting naturally lends itself to romantic escapes and experience-led visits, from exploring the surrounding landscape by day to relaxed evenings enjoying the house and its hospitality. Welcoming guests aged 16 and over helps us maintain the intimate and atmospheric experience many guests come here to enjoy.

Breakfast: 8:00am-10:00am
Lunch (Thursday – Sunday): 12:00pm – 2:00pm (please note, last orders for the lunchtime Tasting Menu is at 1pm)
Dinner (Daily): 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Lounge Menu (Daily): 12:00pm – 7:00pm
Afternoon Tea (Daily): 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Sunday Lunch: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

 

Do you cater for specific dietary requirements? caret-down

All our food is prepared on the premises so we can cater for most dietary requirements with notice. Please do advise our staff of any dietary requirements and allergies when booking.

Is room service offered at Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

Yes, room service is offered at Penmaenuchaf, with our Lounge Menu available between 12pm – 8pm.

Do you offer snacks or lighter meals? caret-down

Yes, our Lounge Menu offers lighter dishes and is available from 12pm – 8pm

Is there a dress code for dinner? caret-down

We’re very relaxed at Penmaenuchaf and our dress code is smart casual. We kindly request that no board shorts, sportswear, ripped jeans or flip flops are worn in the restaurants.

Do you offer corkage? caret-down

No, we don’t offer corkage.

Can external guests join resident guests for meal? caret-down

Yes, both the Afon Restaurant, Afternoon Tea and our bar and lounge menu are open to non-residential guests. 

Dogs

Is Penmaenuchaf dog friendly? caret-down

Yes, well behaved dogs (and their owners, of course) are very welcome. We have five dog-friendly bedrooms, and these rooms must be booked directly with the reservations team – they cannot be booked online. Please get in touch via email or phone to enquire about options for dog-friendly rooms. 

We kindly request that owners are considerate and respectful of other guests, as not everyone likes dogs. The upkeep of the hotel and the grounds is also an important consideration.

Are there dog friendly dining options? caret-down

We’re able to offer informal dog-friendly dining in one of our lounge spaces, where you can enjoy food from our Lounge Menu.

Unfortunately your dog cannot join you in the restaurant. (We also offer the restaurant menus in a dog-friendly dining space, pre-booking advisable, which is available for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner).

Is there a charge for dogs? caret-down

We charge £25 per dog per night. Your dog will enjoy our doggy towels, blanket and very special treats.

We have on site car parking, including accessible spaces at the front of the hotel.

Do you have a TV lounge or viewing area? caret-down

While we have several beautiful communal lounges to relax in, these spaces are intentionally TV-free to preserve the calm and character of the house.

When was Penmaenuchaf first opened? caret-down

Penmaenuchaf was built in the 1860s as a Victorian rectory, before opening as a country house hotel in the 1970s. The hotel was acquired by the Seren Collection in 2022, and since then it’s been carefully restored and reimagined as the characterful, luxury mountain retreat you see today.

Who owns Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

Grove of Narberth is owned by Neil Kedward and Zoe Kedward, founders of the Seren Collection, a group of award-winning Welsh hospitality venues. 

Is smoking allowed anywhere in the hotel? caret-down

The hotel is entirely non-smoking, including balconies and the terrace.

We have fridges and safes in all rooms.

What TV channels do you have? caret-down

Room televisions offer Freeview channels. We don’t currently provide Sky Sports.

Can you buy a gift voucher for Penmaenuchaf? caret-down

Yes, we have many different types of gift vouchersfrom dining experiences, to overnight stays, to special events. Vouchers have a 12 month validity unless for a specific event or special offer. They can be purchased in special presentation envelope directly from our reservations team, or bought online, with postal, email and download options for delivered
