We’re delighted to share that the second chapter of our thoughtful transformation at Penmaenuchaf is now complete.
This latest stage of our renovation journey builds on the fantastic work done in the first stage of the refurbishment we began two years ago, weaving in layers of texture, colour and character that reflect both the house’s Victorian heritage and the dramatic landscape of Eryri that surrounds us.
Working once again with celebrated interior designer Nicola Harding, we’ve reimagined five more bedrooms, alongside the entrance hallway, stairwell, and key communal spaces, most notably, the creation of our new Mynydd Lounge Bar & Restaurant.
Each room is designed to feel like its own private retreat. Antique Welsh quilts, bespoke rugs inspired by historic weaving traditions, and handmade ceramic lamps designed by local artisans are just a few of the details you’ll discover. There’s a rich sense of comfort and craftsmanship throughout, which is timeless, welcoming, and quietly luxurious.
The newly revealed Mynydd Bar is now the beating heart of the hotel. Taking its name from the Welsh word for mountain, it’s a space that captures the essence of Penmaenuchaf – atmospheric, generous and full of stories. Mahogany panelling, deep red velvets, and sage green upholstery create a mood that’s both nostalgic and fresh, while a grand fireplace and nods to Welsh mythology root the space in place and history. Whether you’re relaxing after a walk or simply soaking up the ambiance, it’s a space to linger.
Our redesigned bar also introduces a curated lounge menu, offering guests a relaxed and delicious alternative to dining in the established 2 AA Rosette Afon Restaurant. It’s the perfect complement to our evolving food story here at Penmaenuchaf.
This project follows the success of our top-floor room renovations in 2023 and marks an exciting step forward for the house. The final phase, which will complete the restoration of the remaining bedrooms, lounge spaces and restaurant, is planned for early 2026.
